Golfers from 15 Countries take the challenge at International Golf Open Of Cameroon
The 11th edition of the International Golf open of Cameroon officially kicks off this Tuesday May 7, 2024 at the Yaounde Golf Club in the Bastos neighborhood.
The competition brings together about 200 professional and amateurs golfers from fifteen Countries across the globe.
The opening event will be presided over by Cameroon’s Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Narcisse Mouelle Kombi.
Participants are from Cameroon,South Africa,America,England,Nigeria, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Cote d’Ivoire, Zimbabwe,Uganda,Togo,Ghana,Tchad,Rwanda and Zambia
The tournament scheduled from the 7th to 12th May will run in two phases:
The first phase with Professionals on Thursday 9th May, 2024 followed by amateurs.
The competition has been organized with technical assistance from the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education and it will be coordinated by the Cameroon Golf Federation.Game Format
The formats adopted for the 11th International Golf Open is Stroke Play and Stableford and is for golfers from 11 to 60 years of age
Those who will perform well during the competition will be awarded prizes on Sunday May 12, 2024 ranging from 156 thousand to six million CFA Francs.

Neurology : Epilepsy treatment among priorities of first congress
The first Scientific Congress of the Cameroon Academy of Neurosurgeons opened in Yaounde on 2nd May on the theme “Functional and congenital pathologies”.
Organizers of the congress say the maiden edition is dedicated to fine-tuning and promo medical advancements in epilepsy treatment. Congenital malformations of the nervous system in children and vascular neurosurgery were also discussed at the two-day congress.
“Epilepsy is a very common disease in Africa, but the question we are asking ourselves is why surgery, the most effective treatment of the disease, is not widely used in Africa. This is one of the issues we will discuss during the Congress” Pr Vincent de Paul DJIENTCHEU, President of the Cameroonian Academy of Neurosurgeons said .
The prevalence of Epilepsy in Cameroon varies between 0.5 to 13.5% per thousand people according to the Cameroonian Academy of Neurosurgeons. In Africa, the doctor patient ratio is 1 neurosurgeon per 2.5million people.
Improving this frail ratio is one of the most important issues the neurosurgeons from Cameroon, Chad, Côte d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Niger and Mali taking part in the Congress are working on.
The maiden Congress of the Cameroonian Academy of Neurosurgeons was officially opened by the Inspector General of Administrative Services at the Ministry of Public Health, Mr. Boukar Oumaté, Representative of the Minister of Public Health.
“The organization of this conference is of necessity as the Academy of Neurosurgeons has become a partner of the government to improve the quality of health care in the country,” the Inspector General said during the opening ceremony.
In search of Neurosurgeons
The number of neurosurgeons in Cameroon has considerably increased, and also enriched with the return of colleagues from other African and European schools of Neurosurgery.
However, Neurosurgery is reportedly one of the health specialties seriously lacking in human resources.
To improve the Neurosurgeon versus patient ration, the Congress has launched a competition to select five best presentations on neurosurgery during the two day event.
“We want to use the competition to attract young people to become neurosurgeons. We will have a Congress in Kinshasa in November. We have organized a competition during this congress to select five youths with the best presentations who will travel to Kinshasa to participate in the Congress in November,” Prof. Aderehime Haidara, Neurosurgeon from Côte d’Ivoire said.
Epilepsy patients in Cameroon can be treated at the cost of between 30,000-40,000 monthly. Patients who become drug resistant can be treated by surgical procedures which experts estimate could cost a little below 1million FCFA. The neurosurgeons are using the congress to raise awareness about the use of surgical procedures to offer life-long treatment for the medical condition.

Play-Offs Down:Union Sportive Of Douala Best Overall
The MTN Elite One Championship playoffs down has come to an end in Yaounde with Union Sportive of Douala topping the classification table with 19 points.
From the 22nd of March to Thursday May 2, 2024, eleven teams of the first division were competing to be maintained in Elite One. It was a very tough battle as every club came into the competition with the intention of securing a ticket or be forced to return to Elite Two next season.
At the end of the season, 6 teams had to be maintained while 5 others make way for those who qualified during the Elite Two playoffs in the West region.Teams Maintained in Elite One
At the end of the one-month football competition, Union Sportive, As Fortuna, Astres FC of Douala, Bamboutos FC of Mbouda, PWD of Bamenda and Fauve Azur Elite of Yaounde were maintained.
The last encounters at the Ngoa Ekele , Omnisports annex pitting Olembe annex A and B Stadiums on May 2 were decisive ones for Bamboutos of Mbouda, Apejes of Mfou and UMS of Loum which battled for a single position.They all fought hard to remain in the top flight Ship Class, but only Bamboutos FC made it thanks to Sampson Kwasi and Boris Kache’s goal before the end of the second half.
Relegated To Elite Two
UMS of Loum, Fovu club of Baham, Avion Academy, Aigle Royal of Menoua and Apejes of Mfou have been relegated to Elite Two.
They will have to work harder next season to get the opportunity to come back to the top flight.Top Three Scorers of PlayOffs Down
During the competition, talents were discovered and some players like Jules Armand Kooh of Astres FC with 22 goals got the public’s affirmation of his football talent.
Jules Armand Kooh is currently winner of the Golden Boot in MTN Elite One. On the last day of the competition, he scored two more goals during the match against Avion Academy.
Boris Kache of Bamboutos FC ends the competition with 17 goals.
Adrien Boris Mfoumou of As Fortuna of Mfou is next in line with 16 goals
The competition is over and unsuccessful teams will go back to the drawing board. Teams that were maintained are going back to their clubs to prepare for the Cup of Cameroon

Lutte contre le terrorisme: la police camerounaise mieux outillée
24 policiers formés dans le domaine du déminage, ont reçu ce 2 mai 2024 à Yaoundé, leurs diplômes de fin de formation du stage de déminage niveau 1.
La cérémonie avait pour cadre l’Ecole nationale supérieure de Police de Yaoundé et était présidée par le Délégué général à la Sûreté nationale, Martin Mbarga Nguélé et l’ambassadeur de France au Cameroun, Thierry Marchand, en présence de nombreux membres du corps diplomatique.
Objectif de la formation
Organisée par la Coopération française et la Délégation générale à la Sûreté nationale (DGSN), cette formation avait pour objectif de doter la DGSN d’une capacité en déminage afin de protéger les populations camerounaises contre le risque explosif. L’ambassadeur de France au Cameroun relèvera d’ailleurs à cet effet qu’une dizaine d’incidents liés aux explosions de munitions et autres engins improvisés ont lieu chaque jour avec comme victimes, les populations civiles.
Pour Thierry Marchand, « le continent africain n’est pas exempt de cette menace, le Cameroun non plus. D’où la volonté des autorités camerounaises de faire face à ces risques et menaces». À en croire Martin Mbarga Nguélé, ce renforcement des capacités en déminage est une étape très importante dans la coopération policière France-Cameroun, car, au-delà de permettre au pays de relever les défis sécuritaires actuels, elle traduit également la modernisation de la police camerounaise pour la sécurité renforcée du Cameroun.
La formation
Cette première formation du genre aura duré quatre semaines avec des enseignements dispensés par deux experts français en déminage. Selon, l’un des stagiaires, l’officier de police Henri Abada, ces enseignements ont été faits en deux phases: « la première phase était purement théorique à travers la maîtrise de certaines terminologies et l’identification visuelle du matériel qui a été le nôtre pendant les quatre semaines de formation. La deuxième phase, quant à elle était pratique. Pour cela, nous nous sommes rendus sur le terrain du côté de Mbankomo sur le site de démolition de la Sûreté nationale. Là-bas, nous sommes passés à la mise en pratique de ce qui a été fait en salle ». Aujourd’hui, ces 24 policiers formés en déminage, niveau 1, peuvent reconnaitre une munition et analyser la menace, sécuriser la zone de démolition et détruire la mine sur place.
Ces policiers pourront poursuivre leur formation en deuxième, puis en troisième année. Le prochain stage étant fixé au mois de juin 2024 pour le niveau 2. À cet effet, Martin Mbarga Nguélé a salué la dotation en équipements opérationnels de la France au Cameroun. L’objectif étant de doter en trois ans, les dix régions des équipes de démineurs. En attendant, le délégué général à la Sûreté nationale demande aux policiers ainsi formés, de s’appliquer en vue d’une maîtrise des connaissances acquises et d’en faire une application appropriée, pour permettre à notre pays de rester à la hauteur des défis actuels.

MTN Elite One: AS Fortuna And Union Sportive Have Secured Their Tickets
The 2023/2024 MTN Elite One Championship playoffs down is coming to an end after one month of competition in Yaounde.
AS Fortuna of Mfou and Union Sportive of Douala can heave a sigh of relief as they are leading in the classification table. The final lap will take place this Thursday, May 2, 2024.
Accordingly, one more day is left to officially know the six teams maintained in division one and those going down to division two.
The 11 teams competing have all played their cards to be maintained, but unfortunately, five will have to go down at the end.
Statistics After Day-10
It has not been an easy competition since the beginning as various teams came well prepared for the tough battle.
They all had same days to play, so as to secure a ticket to be maintained or relegated but the number of points obtained after the struggle will have to shape everything.
As Fortuna of Mfou, Union Sportive of Douala, Fauve Azur Elite, PWD of Bamenda, Astres of Douala and Bamboutos FC of Mbouda are on a safe side for now after match day 10.
Who knows, Apejes of Mfou 7th and Aigle Royal 8th might do something on the last day to add points and may be dominate Bamboutos and Astres FC.
Relegation
UMS of Loum two-time champions of the MTN Elite One Championship, Avion Academy, and Fovu Club of Baham have been relegated.
UMS of Loum and Fovu Club are going down after spending ten years in division one.UMS of Loum was two-time champion of Cameroon and 2015 winners of the Cup of Cameroon.
Fovu Club was the winner of the Cameroon Cup in 2023.
Two other teams will have to join them after day 11.
Players of the Competition
Jules Armand Kooh of Astres FC of Douala, Boris Kache Fon of Bamboutos FC, and Adrien Boris Mfoumou of AS Fortuna of Mfou, have all shown their talents during the football jamboree.

One-time Minister of Basic Education (2004 to 2009) and Secretary of State at the Ministry of National Education (2000 to 2004), Haman Adama, died on 29th April 2024 and has been buried this 30th April.

État civil: plaidoyer pour l’enregistrement systématisé des naissances
C’est ce qui ressort du discours du ministre de la Décentralisation et du Développement local, Georges Elanga Obam, représentant le Premier ministre, ce 26 avril à Yaoundé lors du lancement du 1er Forum national des maires sur l’enregistrement universel des naissances au Cameroun.
Forum historique sur la problématique d’enregistrement des naissances au Cameroun. Cette première édition intervient dans un contexte où 7 millions de Camerounais ne disposent pas d’actes de naissance, soit 1 million 500 mille enfants. Le lancement du 1er Forum national des maires sur l’enregistrement universel des naissances au Cameroun ce vendredi par le ministre de la Décentralisation et du Développement local au nom du Premier ministre, entend identifier les problèmes qui se posent. Mais aussi, vise à proposer des solutions efficaces. « Que l’enregistrement des naissances se fasse à la naissance » a déclaré à l’occasion, Georges Elanga Obam.
Magistrats municipaux
Initiative salutairePour les 374 magistrats municipaux qui prennent part à ce 1er Forum national, la rencontre de Yaoundé était très attendue. « Ce forum vient à point nommé. Ça nous permet d’aller rectifier ce qui ne vas pas à Fotokol concernant l’enregistrement des naissances » a confié Ramat Moussa, maire de la commune de Fotokol, région de l’Extrême-Nord. Quant à Roger Tafam, maire de la ville de Bafoussam , les travaux de Yaoundé vont « aider à renforcer les actions d’enregistrement des naissances et permettre une prise de conscience nationale ». Pour Dadda Fadimatou Epse Aliou, maire de la commune de Mayo-Darlé, région de l’Adamaoua, « la digitalisation viendra mieux sécuriser les actes de naissance ». « La démarche de numérisation est salutaire. Elle permettra une centralisation de cette problématique transversale » a ajouté Albert Emmanuel Nlend, maire de la ville d’Edea, région du Littoral.
Membres du gouvernement
De nombreux membres du gouvernement, les partenaires au développement ainsi que les gouverneurs de l’Est, Grégoire Mvongo et de l’Extrême-Nord, Midjiyawa Bakari étaient présents à l’ouverture de ce Forum. Ces dernières régions connaissent en effet un taux élevé d’enfants qui n’ont pas d’acte de naissance.

Fête du Travail 2024: le dialogue constructif au centre des festivités
Le ministre du Travail et de la Sécurité sociale, Grégoire Owona, était en communion avec les populations du département de la Haute Sanaga ce 24 avril pour poser les jalons de la célébration du 1er mai 2024.
« Dialogue social constructif: facteur de promotion du travail décent et de progrès social ». C’est sous ce thème que la 138e édition de la Fête internationale du Travail sera célébrée au Cameroun. L’événement prévu le 1er mai prochain a été lancé ce mercredi à Nkoteng, région du Centre par le ministre du Travail et de la Sécurité sociale. Pour Grégoire Owona, c’était l’occasion d’adresser le message de la mobilisation de masse pour l’éclat de la fête en vue.
Renforcer les concertations patronat et délégués du personnel
Le choix de la localité de Nkoteng n’est pas fortuit pour abriter le lancement des activités de la 138e édition de la Fête internationale du Travail. Située à 120 km de Yaoundé, la commune de Nkoteng, compte près de 50 mille habitants. Il s’agit surtout d’une ville cosmopolite et une illustration de la cohabitation pacifique entre les autochtones et les autres tribus du Cameroun. En effet, la ville abrite également la Société sucrière du Cameroun (Sosucam). D’où l’option du ministre du Travail et de la Sécurité sociale pour la grande messe des travailleurs entamée sur ces terres communément appelé la vallée du sucre. Au centre des échanges entre le ministre du Travail et de la Sécurité sociale et les employés locaux, les droits et devoirs des travailleurs , mais aussi le cahier de charge du patronat. « Les négociations doivent être saines en vue de l’amélioration des conditions de travail » a souligné Grégoire Owona à cette occasion.
Avec le lancement des festivités ce mercredi, la localité de Nkoteng ouvre ainsi la voie à une série de manifestations qui vont meubler cette semaine d’activités, marquant la 138e édition de la Fête internationale du travail axée sur le dialogue social constructif.

Disability Inclusion: Persons with intellectual disabilities acquire knowledge on political participation
Junior Lango, a person with intellectual disability has just been equipped with knowledge on his rights to participate in decision-making as an active citizen of Cameroon.
He is among 30 persons with intellectual disabilities and representatives of support groups who took part in a three-day training on the political participation of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in Yaoundé.
The training was jointly organized by Sight Savers International and Inclusion International from April 15-17, 2024.
“I have learnt a lot about my personality. Thanks to this training, I have learnt about my rights as a citizen and my rights as a person with disabilities. One of my rights is to be loved and feel accepted in the society.”
Participants of the workshop including self advocates, associations of persons with disabilities, the Ministry of Social Affairs and some rights groups discussed practical solutions to the inclusion of this special group of people in the political life of the country.
The right to participate in political activities and public life is a fundamental human rights law. However, persons with intellectual disabilities are usually left behind.
The three-day workshop was held within the framework of citizenship and political involvement of persons with intellectual disabilities.
“These are issues that concern everyone living in a country.This training brings a solution because people with intellectual disabilities are usually left out of important political decisions. Human rights requires we leave no one aside,” Marguerite Belobo Belili, Executive Director of Sightsavers Cameroon said.
During the training, persons with intellectual disabilities were schooled on the importance of being knowledgeable in political issues. They were also told that knowing their right to participate in politics and public life is well-established in human rights law for everyone.
“We have explained what is a good advocate. Persons with disabilities need a good human companion . We have explained the role this person plays. They help the person with intellectual disability take decisions and not take decisions for them. The bad advocate takes decisions for the person with intellectual disability.”Claudine Lawson Daizo, Executive Director of CHRYSALIDE said.
To facilitate the political involvement of persons with intellectual disabilities, they are required to each have electoral cards, and be able to vote. Ensuring inclusive participation of their families, community and country is also of great importance.
Organizers called on rights groups, the Ministry of Social Affairs and other stakeholders to ensure the political rights of persons with intellectual disabilities are respected.
“This workshop has made us aware that when persons with disabilities understand what is happening around them, they can take meaningful decisions even though we acknowledge it’s usually not easy. They make much efforts to express themselves so that their rights can be respected,” Onana Bidi Thaddée, PWDs and PHD student of the University of Yaoundé 1 said.
Lack of a skilled facilitator, low efficiency, disinterest in political issues, and language barrier are some of the challenges to political participation of persons with intellectual disabilities. That not withstanding, stakeholders say the government has all it takes to ensure that persons with disabilities are able to fully participate in all decision-making processes.
