Festival panafricain des films : les jeunes cinématographes à l’étude de la Loi
Du 24 au 27 avril 2024, ils seront édifiés sur les Lois et les règlements qui régissent le 7e art au Cameroun dans la salle Sita Bella à Yaoundé.
Plus connu sous le nom de First Short, Le Festival panafricain des films d’école, célèbre sa 10e édition sous le thème « Cinéma et Législation ». Pour l’événement placé sous le haut patronage du ministère des Arts et de la Culture, l’accent sera mis sur les fondements juridiques qui encadrent la profession de cinéaste au Cameroun. Le First Short, axé sur la promotion des films d’école, entend orienter les apprentissages de 03 jours sur la Loi, pour une pratique éthique du métier auquel aspire les jeunes. A ce titre, les ateliers se pencheront sur les modalités d’obtention d’une autorisation pour exercer l’activité cinématographique au Cameroun et les législations spéciales de l’activité cinématographique au Cameroun.
De nouvelles projections
En plus de la législation, le First Short prévoit de projeter les films réalisés par les étudiants en cinématographie et audiovisuel venant d’Afrique. Une trentaine de court-métrages en compétition officielle et hors compétition, sera diffusée avec un penchant pour les web-séries qui font leur première apparition dans la liste des productions cinématographiques. Les meilleures d’entres elles seront primées à la fin du festival.
Le programme prévoit aussi une masterclass sur le jeu d’acteur, un atelier d’écriture de scénario et de la production de films à petit budget, un match des incollables et un match de football.

Polish man arrested for allegedly plotting assassination of Ukrainian President
A Polish man named Pawel K, has been arrested over an alleged Russian plan to facilitate the assassination the Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky. According to Polish prosecutors, the man whose arrest was made on the basis of Ukrainian intelligence had been allegedly assigned to gather information about the Rzeszów-Jasionka airport in south-eastern Poland, near the Ukrainian border airport in Poland often used by the Ukrainian President and other top-ranking officials. The suspect is in detention awaiting judicial procedures, and face up to 8 years in prison if convicted.
Kenya investigates death of military chief in helicopter crash
The Kenyan government has launched investigations into the helicopter crash that killed military chief, Gen Francis Ogolla, and nine others.
The military chief was among 12 occupants of the military helicopter that went down on Thursday afternoon in the north-west of the country. Two survivors of Thursday’s crash are receiving treatment in the hospital, while the mortal remains of those who lost their lives were flown to Nairobi. Kenya has announced a three-day mourning.
India goes to the polls
Indians have gone to the polls to vote a new government in what has been termed the world’s biggest election. About 969 million people are expected to take part in the exercise that will take place in 7 phases for the next six weeks. Over 160 million voters in 21 states are eligible to vote for more than 1,600 candidates in more than 102 constituencies today Friday April 19th. Voting will end on June 1, and results will be released on June 4. prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata party is expected to win a third term.
Nigeria’s Military frees Chibok girl
One of the Chibok girls who was kidnapped ten years ago by the Islamist group, Boko Haram in Northern Nigeria has been rescued. The girl who was rescued in northern Borno State by the Nigerian military is reported to have been freed alongside 3 of her children. Lydia Simon was five months pregnant at the time of her rescue. Her rescue brings to total the number of Chibook girls freed to over 100. Over 80 are reportedly still missing.
