    Douala 2026 Dixiades: Preparations Gain Momentum

    Preparations ahead of the 2026 National Games of Cameroon, dubbed Dixiades, have already begun with key meetings bringing together actors of the organising committees and the National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSC).

    The session held Wednesday, May 6, 2026 in Yaounde was presided over by the General Coordinator of the Committees, Grégoire Owona, and featured the presentation of the official logo of the Games scheduled to take place in Douala from December 13 to 22, 2026.

    During the meeting, stakeholders reviewed progress and outlined priority areas to ensure the successful organisation of the event.

    Key focus was placed on logistics, security, athlete accommodation, as well as sanitation, nutrition and the live broadcast of competitions, all considered critical to delivering a smooth and high-standard sporting event.

    The meeting also brought together Presidents of Regional Olympic and Sports Committees (CROS), National Sports Federations, local organising committees, and partners involved in the planning process. CRTV, as the main communication partner, is expected to play a central role in ensuring wide media coverage of the Games, alongside other stakeholders supporting various operational aspects.

    Speaking at the end of deliberations, the Secretary General of the Cameroon National Olympic and Sports Committee, David Ojong, stressed the importance of coordinated efforts among all actors.

    He noted that national federations will work closely with the technical departments of Regional Olympic and Sports Committees to guarantee effective preparation and execution of the Games.

    With momentum building and coordination strengthening, the Douala 2026 Dixiades are on course to stand out as a major sporting rendezvous, showcasing Cameroon’s commitment to sports development and excellence.

    The former Speaker of the National Assembly, Honourable Cavaye Yeguie Djibril died this Wednesday May 6, 2026 in Tokombere in Mayo-Sava Division of the Far North Region.

    The Member of National Assembly was the First-Class traditional ruler of Mada in the Tokombéré subdivision.

    He was the fourth Speaker of the National Assembly, holding the position from 1992 to 2026, becoming the longest-serving serving person to hold the position.

    He will be remembered for playing an essential role in the construction of the new edifice of the National Assembly called the Paul Biya Glass House.

    16th Commonwealth Regional Conference of Heads of Anti-Corruption Agencies in Africa Opens in Yaoundé

    Over 80 participants from 21 countries are taking part discussions and group works at the ongoing 16th Commonwealth Regional Conference of Anti-Corruption Agencies in Africa organized in Yaounde, Cameroon.

    Opening the Conference, the Representative of the Head of State, Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Supreme State Audit, Mbah Acha Rose described the gathering as a remarkable platform for leading dialogue and actions in building societies where corruption has no place.

    She highlighted Cameroon’s National Development Agenda blended with technology driven solutions and digital transformation mechanisms created to enhance transparency, accountability and reduce fraud.

    The Chairman of the Anti- Corruption Commission, CONAC, Rev. Dr. Dieudonne Massi Gams who welcomed the participants noted that the conference will focus on reinforcing shared commitment in combatting corruption in the continent and beyond.

    Marked by an exceptional cultural display of the diversity of Cameroon and Africa, the various speakers insisted that transparency, accountability, integrity, collaboration and the use of AI will drive impactful change across Africa.

    Inscription sur les listes électorales: Elecam mise sur le digital

    Le Directeur général des élections, Erik Essousse, a lancé à cet effet une campagne de communication digitale de 10 jours, ce 22 avril 2026. Ceci afin de sensibiliser les citoyens en âge de voter.

    Dix jours pour informer, sensibiliser et éduquer sur les fondamentaux de la révision des listes électorales. L’objectif étant de toucher un grand nombre de jeunes, femmes et hommes à travers les réseaux sociaux. « Nous devons nous arriver à cette nouvelle donne du temps moderne qui nous permet de communiquer rapidement », a indiqué Dr Erik Essousse, Directeur général des élections, lors du lancement de la campagne ce mercredi.

    Axes clés de la campagne

    Cette opération d’Elections Cameroon (Elecam) entend:

    • Inciter les citoyens inscrits ayant changé de lieu de résidence à se rapprocher d’Elecam pour leur changement de bureau de vote;
    • les citoyens inscrits à vérifier leur inscription physiquement auprès de l’antenne communale Elecam de leur lieu d’inscription ou alors en ligne sur www.elecam.cm.
    • lutter contre la désinformation en encourageant les internautes à rechercher la bonne information électorale sur les plateformes d’Elecam : Facebook, X, chaine Elecam WhatsApp;
    • améliorer l’éducation électorale des citoyens, etc.

    Inscription sur les listes électorales

     Elle concerne tout Camerounais âgé de 20 ans ou plus. Selon l’article 74 du Code électoral, les listes électorales font l’objet d’une révision annuelle sur l’ensemble du territoire national et auprès de la diaspora. Mais aussi au sein des représentations diplomatiques et postes consulaires du Cameroun à l’étranger. En effet, la révision annuelle des listes électorales commence le 1er janvier et s’achève le 31 août de chaque année.
     
    Changement de bureau de vote
     
    C’est l’article 76, alinéa 4 du Code électoral qui renseigne sur ce qui convient de faire. Il en ressort qu’en période de révision des listes électorales, « sont apportées à la liste électorale toutes les modifications relatives aux changements de résidence ou à des erreurs matérielles constatées ». Ainsi, les citoyens ayant changé de lieu de résidence peuvent se rapprocher de l’antenne communale Elecam de leur nouveau lieu de résidence pour procéder au changement de leur bureau de vote.

    Vérification de l’inscription

    Elle s’opère sur le site www.elecam.cm ou physiquement auprès de l’antenne communale Elecam du lieu d’inscription. Quant à la radiation, l’article 76 alinéa 3 souligne que « sont retranchées de la liste électorale les personnes décédées, celles dont la radiation a été ordonnée par l’autorité judiciaire compétente ». Mais également toutes celles qui ne remplissent pas les conditions exigées par la loi, et celles qui ont été indûment inscrites.

    Léon XIV: l’orphelinat Ngul Zamba visité

    La maison d’accueil était au programme de la visite du pape en terre camerounaise ce 15 avril, premier jour de cette visite apostolique qui s’achève le 18 avril prochain.

    C’est donc dans la joie que les responsables de cette maison, les sœurs de la congrégation des filles de Marie de Yaoundé, ont accueilli le 267e Pape de l’histoire. Un moment qu’elles ont préparé « dans la paix et la prière, comme un enfant qui a appris que son parent voyage pour venir le voir », a expliqué la responsable de l’établissement, sœur Antoinette Marie Beyina.

    Présentation de l’orphelinat

    C’est un établissement centenaire qui a ainsi ouvert ses portes au successeur de Saint Pierre. Sœur Régine Cyrille Ngono Bounoungou, supérieure générale de la congrégation des filles de Marie de Yaoundé, fait ainsi savoir que la congrégation des filles de Marie de Yaoundé  est la toute première congrégation diocésaine au Cameroun, créée en 1926. 

    La maison dont le charisme est: « Au service du pauvre et du petit », compte aujourd’hui 60 pensionnaires dont les âges varient entre 3 et 18 ans. « Les enfants nous viennent des affaires sociales, on les introduit dans la maison et on doit tout faire comme s’ils étaient dans la maison familiale », précise Sœur Antoinette Marie Beyina qui ajoute : « Ça veut dire qu’ils doivent aller à l’école, ils doivent manger, ils doivent s’habiller et être soignés ».

    Une bénédiction pour l’orphelinat

    Accueillir le pape au moment où cette structure sociale célèbre son centenaire avec la clôture des activités prévue en décembre 2026, apparaît donc comme une bénédiction pour les responsables. « Nous voyons que c’est une bénédiction pour notre centenaire parce que c’est une chose inédite. Le pape vient jusque chez nous, une petite congrégation, nous qui nous sommes aux côtés des plus faibles, des personnes vulnérables, des démunis », relève, émue sœur Régine Cyrille Ngono Bounoungou.

    D’où la joie exprimée par les membres de la congrégation après la visite de l’illustre hôte : « Nous avons vu le pape de nos yeux, nous sommes très très heureuses », ou encore : « Nous vivons dans la joie, merci Seigneur pour cette grâce particulière ». Pour les enfants, l’on affirme ici qu’ils se sentent valorisés parce qu’ils ont été presque rejetés et éprouvés depuis leur jeune enfance. Aussi, pour sœur Régine Cyrille Ngono Bounoungou, supérieure générale de la congrégation des filles de Marie de Yaoundé, cette visite du pape Léon XIV, vient-elle renforcer leur engagement et les encourager à être plus que jamais aux côtés des vulnérables.

    Pope Leo XIV Visits Cameroon : Pontiff Advocates for Lasting Peace

    Pope Leo XIV’s has made a strong case lasting peace in Cameroon, as he embarks on an apostolic visit holding from April 15-18, 2026.

    The Pope made the declaration while speaking at the Presidency of the Republic of Cameroon, shortly after arriving the country.

    Religious and political party leaders, the diplomatic corps, administrative authorities, civil society representatives and other personalities massively turned out for he first contact-session with the Holy Father.

    « The world thirsts for peace. Enough of wars, with their painful toll of death, destruction and exile.This cry is meant as a call to commit to authentic peace, placing it above all partisan interests, » Pope Leo said.

    The Pope empathized that peace will be an antidote to violence if it « takes shape in a personal and institutional way of life, rather than being reduced to a slogan. »

    His speech came after that of President Biya, concurred with the Pope’s yearning for a peaceful Cameroon, and addressed global issues affecting countries beyond the Cameroon’s borders.

     » Your visit comes at a time when countries are experiencing growing economic difficulties,increased misery, and worry tearing hearts apart. The message of peace and comfort which you bear, resonates with a particular feeling in our hearts. This message awakens a feeling of humanity in us……… it’s a feeling of hope, » President Biya said.

    The Head of State added that Cameroon, like other countries is looking forward to a world where « the voice peace will replace the voice of arms, a world where immense resources consecrated to weapons will be used to promote wellbeing of people, » he stated.

    A Clarion Call for Peace

    The Holy Father’s visit marks a significant moment for the country which has been actively pursuing lasting peace despite looming sociopolitical hindrances.

    Pope Leo’s call for peace and social justice ties with the desires of most Cameroonians who say they expect his visit will crown peace-building efforts undertaken by the government with success.

    Most of them consisting of Christians, students from Catholic institutions, ordinary Cameroonians, and even Muslims, turned out in their numbers on April 15 to welcome the Pope who is on an Apostolic visit to the country.

    Major streets and junctions in Cameroon’s capital Yaounde were crowded with people, clad in various outfits representing church groups, or patriotic groups, and all having one goal, welcome the Pope.

    Children, Men and women from all walks of life chanted songs composed in honor of Pope Leo, contemporary songs, and danced to familiar religious choruses as they awaited his arrival.

    Among them was Crescentia Dingah,
    Public Relations Officer of the Yaoundé Metropolitan Diocese. She expressed the desire to see the Pope’s visit significantly contribute to bringing lasting peace in the country, especially in the English speaking regions of the country.

     » We have crisis in most areas. Spiritually people are very worried. We have inflation, and joblessness most especially. We are hoping that the Pope’s arrival will bring sustainable peace and we will move ahead, » she said.

    As the calls for sustainable peace continue to resonate across the country, the Pope will visit Bamenda and Douala where Cameroonians hope he will continue advocating for peace.
