    Cameroon seals framework to boost research and innovation

    Cameroon is set to strengthen its scientific research, innovation, and engineering training following the signing of a framework partnership agreement between the Ministry of Scientific Research and Innovation (#MINRESI) and the International Institute for Water and Environmental Engineering (#2iE).

    The agreement was signed on April 21, 2026, in Yaoundé by the Minister of Scientific Research and Innovation, Dr. Madeleine Tchuinté, and the Director General of 2iE, El Hadji Bamba Diaw.

    It aims to enhance cooperation in strategic sectors including energy, infrastructure, environment, and transport, while expanding opportunities for student internships, doctoral training, and applied research.

    Speaking during the ceremony, Minister Madeleine Tchuinté said the partnership should serve as an instrument to protect national interests while contributing to African scientific excellence and regional integration. She also cautioned against risks such as dispersion of efforts, financial constraints, and coordination challenges, stressing the need for strong governance and measurable results.

    The Director General of 2iE, El Hadji Bamba Diaw, emphasised the importance of strengthening scientific collaboration and offering more practical research opportunities for Cameroonian students and doctoral candidates, while consolidating the institute’s presence in Central Africa.

    Preparatory meeting shapes framework of cooperation

    The agreement was preceded by a working session held on April 20, 2026, at the Ministry of Scientific Research and Innovation in #Yaoundé.

    The session brought together 2iE representatives and officials of research institutions under MINRESI, serving as a platform to present institutional missions, assess research capacities, and identify priority areas of cooperation.

    Key recommendations from the working session

    During the meeting, participants recommended establishing targeted partnerships between MINRESI-affiliated institutes and 2iE, strengthening capacity to mobilise international research funding, and expanding doctoral training opportunities.

    They also emphasised the need to co-organise scientific events, pool research expertise, promote research-based entrepreneurship, and ensure regular coordination to support effective implementation.

    What changes after the signing?

    With the agreement now formalised, both parties are expected to move from consultation to implementation, focusing on concrete research projects, stronger institutional collaboration, and better translation of scientific outputs into development solutions.

    Yaoundé: Third Term Begins in Nursery and Primary Schools

    Nursery and primary schools across Yaoundé have effectively resumed classes this April 20, 2026, marking the end of a two-week holiday and the start of the third term, widely known as the shortest but most decisive period of the school year.

    At Groupe Scolaire Bilingue Les Amis, pupils returned to school in an orderly atmosphere, with lessons beginning immediately after routine assemblies.

    The headmistress, Abo Loveline Mbah Makadaï, told CRTV WEB that the term has started effectively, stressing that it is packed with key academic activities, including official examinations, end-of-year exams, and end-of-year closing activities.

    She further noted that the tight academic calendar leaves no room for delay, calling for discipline, focus, and consistency from learners, parents, and staff.

    As the this term begins, parents are adjusting their daily routines to align with the school timetable, as pupils are expected to be in school by 7 a.m., requiring earlier morning preparation at home.

    Meanwhile, secondary schools are expected to resume classes on Monday, April 27, 2026, in line with the official academic calendar.

    The third term will particularly be marked by emphasis on discipline and time management as schools and families prepare for end-of-year exams and activities.

    Léon XIV: le peuple de Dieu en harmonie avec son berger

    C’est l’impression qui se dégage au terme des quatre jours de la visite pastorale du pape Léon XIV au Cameroun ce 18 avril 2026.

    La base aérienne 101 de Yaoundé a ainsi servi de cadre pour les au revoir entre le Saint Père et la communauté chrétienne du Cameroun, à travers une célébration eucharistique à laquelle a pris part le couple présidentiel.

    Une fin en apothéose pour les chrétiens

    La visite de Benoît XIV au Cameroun a été une occasion pour les chrétiens et particulièrement pour les associations religieuses, de démontrer leur foi en s’investissant encore plus dans la prière, en même temps qu’elles assuraient un accompagnement des plus chaleureux à leur illustre hôte. 

    Il en est ainsi de l’Ekoan Maria, dont les membres n’ont pas fait l’économie de leur énergie pendant cette période: « Nous avons préparé la visite du pape par les prières, on s’est organisé en groupes pour aller l’accueillir à son arrivée. Chaque fois qu’il sortait, on s’organisait pour être présents à son passage », explique Aline Belibi. Ce membre de ladite association dans la zone d’Etoudi, ajoute que la messe de ce 18 avril leur a permis de rentrer avec des bénédictions et beaucoup de grâce dans leurs familles.

    La foi du clergé raffermie

    Pour les hommes de Dieu également, cette rencontre avec le pape leur aura permis de s’enraciner davantage dans leur foi. C’est le cas de sœur Marcelline Manga de l’œuvre de Saint Paul de Fribourg pour qui : « le Saint Père c’est le vicaire du Christ qui est lui-même le patron de l’église. Et quand le patron vient vous voir, ça vous encourage dans la foi » avant d’ajouter: « Avec la présence du Saint Père, nous savourons la joie de notre appel. Nous essayons de nous mettre en droite ligne de la doctrine sociale de Léon XIII , aimer, essayer d’être les témoins ». 

    Pour cette femme qui a donné sa vie à Dieu, l’eucharistie c’est le moment où le Christ est présent. « Le pape ne peut pas partir sans nous dire au revoir. Il nous dit au revoir pour que nous prenions le dernier repas ensemble pour qu’il nous donne à travers son sermon, les derniers conseils. Le pape nous rejoint là dans nos cultures africaines où l’on se sépare autour de la table et la table eucharistique, c’est le lieu de la foi renouvelée », explique-t-elle.

    Des souvenirs marquants

    En guise de souvenirs de cet événement mémorable, les chrétiens ont reçu divers objets. Le livre intitulé « Paul Biya, Léon XIV, pèlerins de la paix et d’une expérience nouvelle » a ainsi été distribué sur place. Edouard Modeste Ndongo de la confrérie saint Joseph confie: « ça représente des archives pour la famille et les générations futures qui trouveront peut-être que les papes sont arrivés au Cameroun à mon époque, et ça leur fera plaisir de savoir que leur grand père a assisté à ces cérémonies ».

    Même joie chez Suzanne Nnomo Ella, la fidèle confirme : « Ce livre est une pièce de mémoire qui me rappellera que je suis venue rencontrer le pape et j’ai eu le bonus de rencontrer le président de la République, donc c’est un livre qui sera toujours comme une relique pour moi et je le montrerai à mes enfants. C’est un souvenir que je vais garder par rapport à ce moment historique ».

    Des chrétiens qui ont été rassurés par le Saint Père qui dans son homélie tirée de l’évangile de la barque, leur a demandé de tenir bon et de garder la confiance en Dieu. C’est donc avec leurs prières qu’il a regagné l’aéroport pour aller continuer à répandre la bonne nouvelle sous d’autres cieux.

    Cameroon: Newly Recruited Civil Servants Strengthen Ethics and Efficiency at Workshop

    Over 2000 new recruits of Cameroon’s public service have acquired knowledge on the functioning of public administration , months after they succeeded at various competitive Entrance Examinations.

    It was a two-day induction seminar for successful candidates of the 2025 direct competitive examinations and the 8th batch of the Institute of Economy and Finance opened this April 13, 2026, in Yaoundé.

    The initiative, organized by the Ministry of Public Service and Administrative Reform, brought together thousands of newly recruited civil servants for orientation on the functioning of Cameroon’s public administration.

    Presiding over the ceremony, the Minister of Public Service and Administrative Reform, Joseph LE, said the seminar is designed to equip recruits with the tools needed to function effectively within the administration. He noted that the initiative, implemented over the past five years on the instructions of the Prime Minister, prepares new recruits before they assume duty.

    According to the Minister, beyond professional integration, the seminar also serves as a strategic tool to fight corruption.

    « It is important to show them what they have to do and what they should avoid,” he stated, stressing the need for integrity, loyalty and professionalism in public service.

    The sessions featured a series of expert presentations and panel discussions coordinated by senior officials of the ministry. The new recruits discussed issues including the legal and regulatory framework of public administration, career management, administrative writing, ethics and professional conduct, as well as the rights and obligations of civil servants.

    Participants were also educated on discipline, salary management and the protection of public funds.

    A key highlight of the seminar was the presentation of AIGLES, a modern digital system designed to manage state personnel, payroll and career progression. Authorities say the tool is central to ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening transparency, efficiency and accountability in public administration.

    In his address, the Minister stated that the seminar aligns with the National Development Strategy (#SND30), which focuses on a more efficient, ethical and performance-driven public service focused on the general interest.

    Joseph Le also urged participants to pay close attention to the issues discussed and, actively engage with experts.

    Participants welcomed the initiative, expressing appreciation for the seminar. Newly recruited civil servants pledged to serve with loyalty, integrity and professionalism, adding that the training particularly strengthened their understanding of administrative procedures and ethical standards.

    The seminar is expected to contribute to the emergence of a new generation of disciplined, competent and accountable public servants capable of meeting the demands of a modernized administration.

    Léon XIV: l’orphelinat Ngul Zamba visité

    La maison d’accueil était au programme de la visite du pape en terre camerounaise ce 15 avril, premier jour de cette visite apostolique qui s’achève le 18 avril prochain.

    C’est donc dans la joie que les responsables de cette maison, les sœurs de la congrégation des filles de Marie de Yaoundé, ont accueilli le 267e Pape de l’histoire. Un moment qu’elles ont préparé « dans la paix et la prière, comme un enfant qui a appris que son parent voyage pour venir le voir », a expliqué la responsable de l’établissement, sœur Antoinette Marie Beyina.

    Présentation de l’orphelinat

    C’est un établissement centenaire qui a ainsi ouvert ses portes au successeur de Saint Pierre. Sœur Régine Cyrille Ngono Bounoungou, supérieure générale de la congrégation des filles de Marie de Yaoundé, fait ainsi savoir que la congrégation des filles de Marie de Yaoundé  est la toute première congrégation diocésaine au Cameroun, créée en 1926. 

    La maison dont le charisme est: « Au service du pauvre et du petit », compte aujourd’hui 60 pensionnaires dont les âges varient entre 3 et 18 ans. « Les enfants nous viennent des affaires sociales, on les introduit dans la maison et on doit tout faire comme s’ils étaient dans la maison familiale », précise Sœur Antoinette Marie Beyina qui ajoute : « Ça veut dire qu’ils doivent aller à l’école, ils doivent manger, ils doivent s’habiller et être soignés ».

    Une bénédiction pour l’orphelinat

    Accueillir le pape au moment où cette structure sociale célèbre son centenaire avec la clôture des activités prévue en décembre 2026, apparaît donc comme une bénédiction pour les responsables. « Nous voyons que c’est une bénédiction pour notre centenaire parce que c’est une chose inédite. Le pape vient jusque chez nous, une petite congrégation, nous qui nous sommes aux côtés des plus faibles, des personnes vulnérables, des démunis », relève, émue sœur Régine Cyrille Ngono Bounoungou.

    D’où la joie exprimée par les membres de la congrégation après la visite de l’illustre hôte : « Nous avons vu le pape de nos yeux, nous sommes très très heureuses », ou encore : « Nous vivons dans la joie, merci Seigneur pour cette grâce particulière ». Pour les enfants, l’on affirme ici qu’ils se sentent valorisés parce qu’ils ont été presque rejetés et éprouvés depuis leur jeune enfance. Aussi, pour sœur Régine Cyrille Ngono Bounoungou, supérieure générale de la congrégation des filles de Marie de Yaoundé, cette visite du pape Léon XIV, vient-elle renforcer leur engagement et les encourager à être plus que jamais aux côtés des vulnérables.

    Pope Leo XIV Visits Cameroon : Pontiff Advocates for Lasting Peace

    Pope Leo XIV’s has made a strong case lasting peace in Cameroon, as he embarks on an apostolic visit holding from April 15-18, 2026.

    The Pope made the declaration while speaking at the Presidency of the Republic of Cameroon, shortly after arriving the country.

    Religious and political party leaders, the diplomatic corps, administrative authorities, civil society representatives and other personalities massively turned out for he first contact-session with the Holy Father.

    « The world thirsts for peace. Enough of wars, with their painful toll of death, destruction and exile.This cry is meant as a call to commit to authentic peace, placing it above all partisan interests, » Pope Leo said.

    The Pope empathized that peace will be an antidote to violence if it « takes shape in a personal and institutional way of life, rather than being reduced to a slogan. »

    His speech came after that of President Biya, concurred with the Pope’s yearning for a peaceful Cameroon, and addressed global issues affecting countries beyond the Cameroon’s borders.

     » Your visit comes at a time when countries are experiencing growing economic difficulties,increased misery, and worry tearing hearts apart. The message of peace and comfort which you bear, resonates with a particular feeling in our hearts. This message awakens a feeling of humanity in us……… it’s a feeling of hope, » President Biya said.

    The Head of State added that Cameroon, like other countries is looking forward to a world where « the voice peace will replace the voice of arms, a world where immense resources consecrated to weapons will be used to promote wellbeing of people, » he stated.

    A Clarion Call for Peace

    The Holy Father’s visit marks a significant moment for the country which has been actively pursuing lasting peace despite looming sociopolitical hindrances.

    Pope Leo’s call for peace and social justice ties with the desires of most Cameroonians who say they expect his visit will crown peace-building efforts undertaken by the government with success.

    Most of them consisting of Christians, students from Catholic institutions, ordinary Cameroonians, and even Muslims, turned out in their numbers on April 15 to welcome the Pope who is on an Apostolic visit to the country.

    Major streets and junctions in Cameroon’s capital Yaounde were crowded with people, clad in various outfits representing church groups, or patriotic groups, and all having one goal, welcome the Pope.

    Children, Men and women from all walks of life chanted songs composed in honor of Pope Leo, contemporary songs, and danced to familiar religious choruses as they awaited his arrival.

    Among them was Crescentia Dingah,
    Public Relations Officer of the Yaoundé Metropolitan Diocese. She expressed the desire to see the Pope’s visit significantly contribute to bringing lasting peace in the country, especially in the English speaking regions of the country.

     » We have crisis in most areas. Spiritually people are very worried. We have inflation, and joblessness most especially. We are hoping that the Pope’s arrival will bring sustainable peace and we will move ahead, » she said.

    As the calls for sustainable peace continue to resonate across the country, the Pope will visit Bamenda and Douala where Cameroonians hope he will continue advocating for peace.

  • Pope Leo XIV is in Cameroon: Cheering Christians Line Streets to Welcome the Holy Father

    The Vicar of Christ landed at the Yaounde Nsimalen International Airport around 3pm this Wednesday 15, April 2026.

    He was welcomed at the foot of the plane by Prime Minister – Head of Government, Joseph Dion Ngute at the behest of the President of the Republic.

    Pope Leo XIV kissed soil of Cameroon immediately as he touched down. Two little children, Victoria and Lucas offered a bouquet of flowers with woods of welcome to the Pope in French and English.

    The Pope and the Prime Minister honoured the anthems of Cameroon and the Vatican State before reviewing the guard of honour at the airport.
    The Pope proceeded to shake hands with the college of Bishops and of personality that had turned out to welcome the Holy Father.

    After brief Airport discussions with the Prime Minister, Pope Leo XIV emerged from the Presidential lounge and was greeted by cheers of joy and excitement from the crowds of Christians who had gathered at the Airport.

    The Pope proceeded to commune with the Christians. From his vehicle, the Pope blessed the Christians most of whom jumped in celebrations after their first encounter with their Holy Father.

    Christian lined up alongside the streets from the Airport till the Unity Palace chanting various welcome songs as the Pope’s motorcade drove pass head to the Unity Palace where he was scheduled to meet with the President of the Republic, Paul Biya.

    Éducation : l’école catholique de Nden dans l’histoire

    Cet établissement est surtout connu pour avoir vu passer plusieurs grandes personnalités du pays et notamment le président de la République, Paul Biya.

    Située dans l’arrondissement de Zoétélé, région du Sud, c’est en effet dans cette école primaire catholique de Nden que Paul Biya a obtenu son Certificat d’Études Primaires et Élémentaires (CEPE), avant son entrée au petit séminaire. 

    Un établissement centenaire

    L’école primaire catholique de Nden est une institution historique rattachée à la Paroisse Saint-Michel de Nden qui a célébré son centenaire en 2023. C’est une école qui joue un rôle clé dans l’éducation locale depuis la création de la mission catholique en 1923. Le centenaire de la paroisse de Nden (1923-2023) a ainsi été célébré en décembre 2023, soulignant le rôle continu de la mission dans l’éducation et l’encadrement spirituel et scolaire de la communauté locale. 

    Paroisse de Nden: un partenaire au développement

    Au-delà de l’éducation, la mission catholique de Nden a constitué un grand centre d’évangélisation et de santé ayant marqué les esprits de nombreux Camerounais. Elle doit sa renommée à son important pôle de santé pour le Cameroun, à travers la léproserie qui a apporté soulagement, réconfort et guérison à plusieurs personnes durant l’épidémie de la lèpre au Cameroun. 

    Pour célébrer son centenaire, une grande foule s’est réunie à Nden le 2 décembre 2023, accompagnée de tous les évêques de la province ecclésiastique de Yaoundé et en présence des autorités politico-administratives. La messe pontificale était présidée par l’évêque du diocèse de Sangmelima, Mgr Christophe Zoa, et concélébrée par tous les évêques de la Conférence épiscopale de la Province ecclésiastique de Yaoundé.
