The President of the Cameroon National Olympic and Sports Committee, CNOSC, who also held the position of President of the Confederation of African Athletics, CAA, Hamad Kalkaba Malboum passed away this Wednesday May 13, 2026.
The International Olympic Committee, the African Athletics Confederation and the Cameroonian sporting bodies are mourning the man who dedicated a greater part of his life for the growth of athletics and Olympic movements in the continent and the world.
The Military Colonel, one of the most influential sporting figures served in the highest ranks of athleticism and contributed enormously in the growth of Olympic sports at the level of the Islamic Solidarity Games, African Athletics, International Military Sports Council, International Association of Athletics Federation and the Cameroon Olympic and Sports Committee #CNOSC.
Class six pupils from primary schools across the country began sitting the Government Common Entrance Examination into form 1, and the Concours d’Entrée en Sixième this Wednesday the 13th of May, 2026.
Candidates turned out massively in their various centers, where supervisors and invigilators were on hand to direct assist and prevent cases of examination fraud.
A few absences were recorded in some centers, due to illnesses, as revealed by some parents of candidates.
The Minister of Secondary Education, Nalova Lyonga, during a supervisory visits to centres hosting the examinations into Form One of General Secondary and of Technical Education, as well as the concours d’entrée en 6ème de l’enseignement secondaire général et en 1ère année de l’enseignement technique.
The Minister’s first stop was at Government High School Efoulan in the Mfoundi Division where the exams were unfolding without hitches.
At her second stop, the Minister of Secondary Education, Nalova Lyonga, visited Government High School Afanoya in the Mfoundi Division where she ensured that guidelines are respected.
The Minister also dispatched a delegation led by Inspector General of Education, Adjaba Biwoli Jean Pierre, to supervise the conduct of the exam in other centers. The Inspector General’s team went to Government Technical Bilingual High School Nlongkak to ensure the smooth conduct of the examinations.
He team also went to Government High School Mballa II, with his monitoring mission to assess the conduct of the examinations and ensure strict compliance with official procedures.
Prime Minister – Head of Government, Joseph Dion Ngute has inaugurated the newly constructed Headquarters building of the Cameroon Football Federation, FECAFOOT. The event is attended by CAF, President Patrice Motsepe among other dignitaries.

Une information largement relayée sur les réseaux sociaux depuis plusieurs années affirme que le corossol (ou graviola) serait un « destructeur de plusieurs types de cancer ». Des propos scientifiquement infondés, selon des experts contactés par CRTVweb. Ces derniers rappellent qu’il n’existe pas pour le moment d’aliment capable d’éradiquer cette maladie.
C’est une affirmation qui resurgit régulièrement. Cette fois-ci, c’est sur la page Facebook « Providence Assistance qu’elle a été repartagée alors qu’elle date de 2021. Celle-ci indique, sans preuve, qu’une infusion de feuilles de corossol dans de l’eau bouillante permettrait de soigner le cancer. Cette page, qui se présente comme une source d’informations sanitaires « alternatives », compte pas moins de 60 000 abonnés, illustrant la viralité potentielle de telles nouvelles. Cette révélation est reprise dans des publications plus récentes et toutes aussi virales.

Cette « recette » se retrouve notamment sur des sites et pages Facebook populaires en Afrique, un contexte où le taux de mortalité dû au cancer est élevé , comme le rapporte l’Organisation mondiale de la Santé (OMS) le 18 septembre 2018.
Incongruité totale
L’idée qu’un simple breuvage de feuilles de corossol puisse venir à bout du cancer est fermement rejetée par les experts contactés. Dr Éveline Djampou, oncologue à l’hôpital général de Yaoundé , est catégorique : « Non, il n’existe aucune preuve scientifique étayant une telle affirmation chez l’humain , à ma connaissance ».
Une recherche scientifique menée par Torres, M. P. et al. (2012) publiée dans la revue Cancer Letters a testé un extrait concentré de corossol sur des souris atteintes d’un cancer du pancréas. Les résultats ont montré une réduction de la taille des tumeurs existantes et une limitation de la propagation du cancer à d’autres organes. L’extrait de corossol agit en perturbant sélectivement la production d’énergie (adénosine triphosphate ou ATP) à l’intérieur des cellules cancéreuses. Comme ces dernières ont besoin de beaucoup plus d’énergie que les cellules saines pour se multiplier, cette perturbation fonctionne comme une coupure de courant ciblée, les affaiblissant et conduisant à leur mort, tout en épargnant relativement les cellules saines. Ces résultats, bien qu’encourageants pour la recherche, doivent être considérés avec prudence car l’étude a été conduite uniquement sur des animaux en laboratoire. Il s’agit d’une première étape indispensable, mais elle ne permet pas de prédire l’efficacité chez l’humain.
Cependant , Il existe une différence entre un aliment sain et un traitement thérapeutique , explique Emilie Temate Tanambou , diététicienne , nutritionniste. « Le corossol est un fruit tropical extrêmement riche en antioxydants , flavonoïdes, polyphénols », et de poursuivre, « Il est excellent pour aider l’organisme à neutraliser et éliminer les déchets, agissant ainsi comme un bouclier antioxydant. » Mais la spécialiste apporte une nuance : « La question n’est pas de savoir s’il est « bon pour la santé », mais si ses bienfaits ont été scientifiquement démontrés comme ayant une action spécifique sur les cellules cancéreuses. À ce jour, je ne dispose d’aucune étude prouvant que le corossol peut atténuer, et encore moins éradiquer, ces cellules chez un Homme». Le véritable bénéfice du corossol se situe ailleurs : dans le domaine de la prévention. « Il peut tout à fait s’intégrer dans une stratégie d’hygiène de vie pour renforcer les défenses naturelles de l’organisme, précise Émilie Temate Tanambou. Il agit alors comme un pare-balles préventif, mais il doit impérativement s’inscrire dans le cadre d’une alimentation globale, saine, variée et équilibrée. » Le mécanisme expliqué par la nutritionniste est le suivant : sa forte teneur en antioxydants permet de lutter contre le stress oxydatif (ensemble des agressions causées par des molécules dérivant de l’oxygène aux cellules du corps) , qui génère des déchets acidifient l’organisme. « Un sang acide est un terrain propice aux inflammations chroniques, rappelle-t-elle. Or, il est établi que le cancer est, à l’origine, une inflammation majeure et incontrôlée» .
Dr Njemen , naturopathe, apporte un avis complémentaire. « Les feuilles de corossolier sont traditionnellement reconnues pour leurs propriétés purifiantes, aidant à détoxifier le foie et à purifier le sang. Cette action peut contribuer à un rôle préventif en renforçant l’organisme contre les infections virales, les troubles nerveux et les maladies cardiovasculaires, et en créant un terrain moins favorable au développement du cancer » , dit-il. Cependant, d’après lui , leur utilisation à titre curatif, particulièrement pour des pathologies avancées comme le cancer, est controversée et potentiellement dangereuse. En l’absence de preuves scientifiques, remplacer un traitement conventionnel par cette plante peut entraîner une aggravation rapide de l’état du patient.
Conclusion de la vérification
Les feuilles de corossolier ou les fruits peuvent s’avérer utiles en prévention dans le cadre d’une hygiène de vie saine, ils ne doivent en aucun cas se substituer à un traitement médical contre le cancer.
Décès ce 12 mai 2026 du cinéaste Bassek ba Kobhio à l’âge de 69 ans. Il était le président fondateur du Festival Écrans Noirs qui se déroule au Cameroun depuis 1997.
Réalisateur de plusieurs longs métrages dont « Sango Malo », « Le Grand Blanc de Lambaréné », il s’est lancé dans la production en créant Terre Africaine, qui a produit de nombreux films dont « Le Silence de la Forêt ».
Il était surtout un grand promoteur du 7e art à travers l’Association Écrans Noirs dont il était le Délégué général et qui, outre le festival, organise des formations au profit des amateurs et professionnels des métiers du cinéma.
Bassek ba Kobhio était aussi un amoureux de littérature. Sa maison d’édition a publié de nombreux ouvrages de référence. Cet ancien directeur de la cinématographie au ministère de l’Information et de la Culture était une grande figure des arts vivants, une voix qui compte dans l’intelligentsia camerounaise.

Twenty-one couples formalised their unions on May 9, 2026, in Yaoundé during the “Grand National Banquet for Families,” held ahead of the International Day of Families on May 15 under the theme “Cameroon, One Family, One Nation.” The event brought together families, officials and guests in a celebration promoting legal marriage, family unity and social cohesion.
Organised by Institut Tyrannus in partnership with the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and the Family (MINPROFF), the ceremony was presided over by Minister Marie-Thérèse Abena Ondoa. Several couples expressed gratitude for the opportunity to regularise their unions through a dignified collective ceremony.
General Supervisor Emmanuel Juste Lingom said the initiative was designed to support couples facing financial barriers to traditional wedding celebrations, while encouraging those in informal unions to formalise their marriages within a shared family gathering. The concept also aimed to elevate the celebration of family as a central pillar of society, alongside other life achievements. He noted that while achievements such as academic success and professional promotions are often celebrated, families themselves are rarely given similar recognition despite their central role in society. Organisers prepared to host thousands of guests, allowing couples and their relatives to celebrate freely.
Speaking during the event the Director of Tyrannus Institute, Mfondi Rachel emphasised that legal marriage strengthens family stability and provides greater security for children. She noted that participating couples benefited from preparatory seminars on marriage, communication and conflict management, with continued post-ceremony guidance.
Minister Marie-Thérèse Abena Ondoa highlighted that this year’s International Family Day theme, “Families, Inequalities and Child Well-being,” underscores the need to reduce social disparities affecting children. She called for stronger social protection systems and collective action to improve family welfare across Cameroon.
The ceremony concluded in a celebratory atmosphere, reaffirming the importance of marriage, family cohesion and shared responsibility in national development.
Six young Cameroonian writers have been honoured at the end of the National Youth Writing Competition organised by the Ministry of Arts and Culture. The prize award ceremony took place this Monday, May 11, 2026, at the National Museum in Yaounde.
Selected out of 80 participants from the 10 regions of the country, the winners aged between 16 and 35 distinguished themselves through short stories and poems centered on two major themes: the fight against fake news on social media and the promotion of national unity.
Through their writings, the young authors denounced misinformation, manipulation and the growing influence of deceptive online content targeting young people. At the same time, they highlighted values, traditions and everyday experiences that strengthen social cohesion and peaceful coexistence among Cameroonians.
Members of the jury, made up of writers and education professionals, praised the creativity, originality and depth reflected in many of the submissions. However, they also expressed concern over the excessive use of artificial intelligence tools by some candidates, stressing the need to preserve authenticity and personal creativity in literary production.
Organisers say the competition is part of efforts to revitalise the book sector by encouraging creative writing among young people while promoting reading culture across the country.
The initiative also seeks to use literature as a tool for civic education and national integration at a time when misinformation on digital platforms continues to pose challenges to social harmony.
Protecting families and strengthening child welfare is amongst the priorities of the Government of Cameroon as indicated by the Minister of Women Empowerment and the Family during an event in prelude to the 32nd International Day of Families celebrated on May 15, 2026.
During the “Grand National Banquet for Families” held on May 9 in Yaoundé, Minister Marie-Thérèse Abena Ondoa, stressed the need for stronger family protection systems in response to growing social and economic challenges affecting children and vulnerable households.
The Minister highlighted that this year’s international theme, “Families, Inequalities and Child Well-being,” reflects challenges limiting children’s access to education, health care and protection services.
She reaffirmed government commitment, under the leadership of President Paul Biya, to strengthening social protection, family welfare and child protection policies.
Organised by Tyrannus Institute in collaboration with the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and the Family (MINPROFF), the event gathered public authorities, families and guests under the theme “Cameroon: A Family-Nation.”
The organisers planned a large-scale gathering with provisions made for more than 6,500 guests and 45 buffet stations. The event also featured the civil registration of twenty-one couples facilitated by the Yaoundé V Council.
The event also promoted legal marriage, family unity and social cohesion ahead of the International Day of Families.
