  • International Golf Open Of Cameroon:Who Will Take Over From Willy Gift

    The 11th International Golf Open of Cameroon has been launched in Yaounde by the Minister of Sports Physical Education, Prof. Narcisse Moulle Kombi.

    About 200 golfers from 15 countries are taking part in this competition which is coming after five years due COVID-19.

    This year there are about 70 professionals, 75 amateurs, 33 caddies and 16 children competing to back home a sum of six million CFAF.

    While launching the tournament at the Golf Club in Yaounde on Tuesday May 7, 2024, the Minister of Sports and Physical Education Prof. Narcisse Mouelle Kombi called on participants to put in their best for the competition to be the pride of Africa.

    The President of the Provisional Management Committee of the Cameroon Golf Federation, Evelyne Ebongue indicated that everything is set for the tournament to be a success technically and medically.
    During her speech at the opening ceremony, she told the golfers that the Federation has taken measures for an effective tournament.

    Participants on their side say they are also prepared for the tournament and their desire to win the prize.
    The Captain of team Cameroon, Christian Tchana, on her part, said their goal is to keep the cup at home

    Innovations

    Before organizing the competition, the Golf Club has been renovated for the event in compliance with international norms and standards to beautify the environment and give it a different look.

    About eighty percent of participants are already in Cameroon, others will be in the country before Thursday May 9, 2024.

    The professional competition will begin this Thursday May 9 followed by amateurs on Saturday.

    Stroke Play and Stableford are the game formats adopted by the committee.

    A snippet of their know how was demonstrated after the cutting of the ribbon by the Minister of Sports and Physical Education.
    The opening ceremony was attended by top government officials and the Ambassador of Belgium to Cameroon H.E, Eric Jacquemin

    Meantime, participants are intensifying training ahead of their games during the competition.

    The 11th International Golf Open ends on Sunday May 12 with the awards ceremony.

    The previous edition was in 2019 with Willy Gift one of Nigeria’s prolific professional players taking the trophy back to his Country.

  • Golfers from 15 Countries take the challenge at International Golf Open Of Cameroon

    The 11th edition of the International Golf open of Cameroon officially kicks off this Tuesday May 7, 2024 at the Yaounde Golf Club in the Bastos neighborhood.

    The competition brings together about 200 professional and amateurs golfers from fifteen Countries across the globe.
    The opening event will be presided over by Cameroon’s Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Narcisse Mouelle Kombi.
    Participants are from Cameroon,South Africa,America,England,Nigeria, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Cote d’Ivoire, Zimbabwe,Uganda,Togo,Ghana,Tchad,Rwanda and Zambia

    The tournament scheduled from the 7th to 12th May will run in two phases:
    The first phase with  Professionals on Thursday 9th May, 2024 followed by amateurs.
    The competition has been organized with technical assistance from the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education and it will be coordinated by the Cameroon Golf Federation.

    Game Format

    The formats adopted for the 11th International Golf Open is Stroke Play and Stableford and is for golfers from 11 to 60 years of age

    Those who will perform well during the competition will be awarded prizes on Sunday May 12, 2024 ranging from 156 thousand to six million CFA Francs.

  • Play-Offs Down:Union Sportive Of Douala Best Overall

    The MTN Elite One Championship playoffs down has come to an end in Yaounde with Union Sportive of Douala topping the classification table with 19 points.

    From the 22nd of March to Thursday May 2, 2024, eleven teams of the first division were competing to be maintained in Elite One. It was a very tough battle as every club came into the competition with the intention of securing a ticket or be forced to return to Elite Two next season.
    At the end of the season, 6 teams had to be maintained while 5 others make way for those who qualified during the Elite Two playoffs in the West region.

    Teams Maintained in Elite One

    At the end of the one-month football competition, Union Sportive, As Fortuna, Astres FC of Douala, Bamboutos FC of Mbouda, PWD of Bamenda and Fauve Azur Elite of Yaounde were maintained.
    The last encounters at the Ngoa Ekele , Omnisports annex pitting Olembe annex A and B Stadiums on May 2 were decisive ones for Bamboutos of Mbouda, Apejes of Mfou and UMS of Loum which battled for a single position.

    They all fought hard to remain in the top flight Ship Class, but only Bamboutos FC made it thanks to Sampson Kwasi and Boris Kache’s goal before the end of the second half.

    Relegated To Elite Two

    UMS of Loum, Fovu club of Baham, Avion Academy, Aigle Royal of Menoua and Apejes of Mfou have been relegated to Elite Two.
    They will have to work harder next season to get the opportunity to come back to the top flight.

    Top Three Scorers of PlayOffs Down

    During the competition, talents were discovered and some players like Jules Armand Kooh of Astres FC with 22 goals got the public’s affirmation of his football talent.

    Jules Armand Kooh is currently winner of the Golden Boot in MTN Elite One. On the last day of the competition, he scored two more goals during the match against Avion Academy.

    Boris Kache of Bamboutos FC ends the competition with 17 goals.
    Adrien Boris Mfoumou of As Fortuna of Mfou is next in line with 16 goals

    The competition is over and unsuccessful teams will go back to the drawing board. Teams that were maintained are going back to their clubs to prepare for the Cup of Cameroon

  • MTN Elite One: AS Fortuna And Union Sportive Have Secured Their Tickets

    The 2023/2024 MTN Elite One Championship playoffs down is coming to an end after one month of competition in Yaounde.

    AS Fortuna of Mfou and Union Sportive of Douala can heave a sigh of relief as they are leading in the classification table. The final lap will take place this Thursday, May 2, 2024.

    Accordingly, one more day is left to officially know the six teams maintained in division one and those going down to division two.

    The 11 teams competing have all played their cards to be maintained, but unfortunately, five will have to go down at the end.

    Statistics After Day-10

    It has not been an easy competition since the beginning as various teams came well prepared for the tough battle.

    They all had same days to play, so as to secure a ticket to be maintained or relegated but the number of points obtained after the struggle will have to shape everything.

    As Fortuna of Mfou, Union Sportive of Douala, Fauve Azur Elite, PWD of Bamenda, Astres of Douala and Bamboutos FC of Mbouda are on a safe side for now after match day 10.

    Who knows, Apejes of Mfou 7th and Aigle Royal 8th might do something on the last day to add points and may be dominate Bamboutos and Astres FC.

    Relegation

    UMS of Loum two-time champions of the MTN Elite One Championship, Avion Academy, and Fovu Club of Baham have been relegated.
    UMS of Loum and Fovu Club are going down after spending ten years in division one.

    UMS of Loum was two-time champion of Cameroon and 2015 winners of the Cup of Cameroon.

    Fovu Club was the winner of the Cameroon Cup in 2023.

    Two other teams will have to join them after day 11.

    Players of the Competition 

    Jules Armand Kooh of Astres FC of Douala, Boris Kache Fon of Bamboutos FC, and Adrien Boris Mfoumou of AS Fortuna of Mfou, have all shown their talents during the football jamboree. Armand Kooh at the moment has 20 goals for the 2023-2024 season, Boris Kache Fon 16, then Adrien Boris Mfoumou 16.

    Kache Boris has 15 goals to his credit at the moment. He contributed to get his club, Bamboutos FC climb from the last five positions at the beginning of the tournament to the 2nd after day 6 of MTN Elite One Playoffs down with 9 points.
