  • Far North Region: Mental Health Issues under Scrutiny

    Some 45 community workers have taken part in a four-day training workshop on mental health issues, organized by the Non-Governmental Organization, SEMBE.

    The training, which focused on psychosocial support, counseling techniques, and the collection of mental health data, aims to equip participants with the skills needed to better support and strengthen the mental well-being of children and young people aged between 10 and 24 who have been affected by Boko Haram atrocities across the Far North Region.

    The message was delivered by Mounouna Foutsou, who also serves as Interim Minister of Employment and Vocational Training, during the official launch of the 11th edition of the Civic and Patriotic Holiday Operation in Salak, on the outskirts of Maroua, on Monday, June 29, 2026.

    National Security: 51 Police Officers Trained in Advanced Crowd-Control Techniques

    Fifty-one police officers drawn from all ranks of the National Security Force have completed a five-day training course on public order maintenance and crowd management on June 26,2026 in Yaoundé.

    The programme, which ran from June 22 to 26, 2026, equipped participants with modern skills in crowd control, operational planning, intervention protocols and public-space management.

    The officers, including Police Commissioners, Police Officers, Police Inspectors and Peacekeepers, received theoretical and practical training designed to enhance security during major public events and improve the management of large gatherings.

    The closing ceremony at the National Higher Police School was presided over by Baya Dominique, Secretary General of the General Delegation for National Security, representing the Delegate General for National Security, Martin Mbarga Nguélé. Also in attendance was the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain to Cameroon, H.E. Juan-Pedro Gomez Delaunay.

    Addressing the participants, Baya Dominique called on them to apply the knowledge and skills acquired during the training with professionalism and responsibility. He further urged them to share the expertise gained with their colleagues and continue promoting best practices in maintaining law and order.

    For his part, Ambassador Juan-Pedro Gomez Delaunay praised the professionalism, commitment and spirit of cooperation demonstrated throughout the training. He noted that the programme reflects the growing security partnership between Cameroon and Spain.

    The training is expected to strengthen the capacity of National Security personnel to safeguard civil liberties, secure public spaces and effectively manage crowds during demonstrations, sporting events, cultural gatherings and other large-scale public activities.

    Supreme Court: Judiciary Corps bid farewell to emeritus President, Alexis Dipanda Mouelle

    Members of the Judiciary Corps of Cameroon have paid homage to the emeritus President of the Supreme Court, Alexis Dipanda Mouelle during a solemn ceremony at the Supreme Court in Yaoundé this Thursday June 25, 2026.

    The Minister of State, Minister of Justice, and Keeper of the Seals in Cameroon is Laurent Esso, represented the President of the Republic at the ceremony.

    The Procureur General of the Supreme Court, Justice Marie Claire Dieudonné Nseng Elang and other members of the Judiciary and State Officials are present at the ceremony at the courtyard of the Supreme Court to pay glowing tributes to the super scale magistrate of the first group.

    Born in 1942, Alexis Dipanda Mouelle died on May 4, 2026 in Yaounde.

    The final journey of the emeritus President of the Supreme Court began with the coffing ceremony at the Yaoundé General Hospital.

    A funeral mass was also said at the Mary Queen of the Apostle Basilica in Mvolye.

    He will be laid to rest on Saturday June 27 after an official funeral ceremony at the Bonakou Bwapaki village in the Littoral Region.

    Yaoundé Drinking Water Project Launched in Minkoameyos

    The Minister of Water Resources and Energy, Gaston Eloundou Essomba, is currently presiding over the foundation stone-laying ceremony for a major drinking water project in the Yaoundé VII Municipality.

    The project, being launched at the Usine des Eaux neighbourhood, aims to enhance the autonomous water source and strengthen water production and distribution capacities to better serve the growing population of Yaoundé.

    According to project officials, the works will include the construction of new water infrastructure, reinforcement of the secondary distribution network, and the rehabilitation of existing grey cast iron and steel pipelines.

    Financed by the State of Cameroon and ING Bank of Belgium, and implemented by CAMWATER under the supervision of the Ministry of Water Resources and Energy, the project forms part of government’s strategy to modernize water infrastructure and ensure sustainable access to potable water for residents of Yaoundé and its environs.

    The D-Clic Project training sessions in #Cameroon have officially ended this June 24, 2026 in #Yaoundé.

    The closing ceremony married the end if a four-month programme jointly implemented by the Ministry of Employment and Vocational Training (#MINEFOP) and the International Organisation of La Francophonie (#OIF).

    The initiative trained 291 young Cameroonians in cybersecurity, AI-assisted graphic design, programming, digital marketing and web design across five excellence hubs nationwide.

    Attestations were awarded, alongside discussions on professional integration and career opportunities.

    2025 Statistical Review of Small and Medium Sized Companies unveiled

    Cameroon’s Small and Medium-sized Enterprises, Social Economy Organisations and Handicrafts have witnessed significant growth, rising from 287,316 SMEs in 2019 to 472,208 in 2025, marking a 6.5% increase compared to the previous year.

    These statistics were revealed during the 15th edition of the 2025 SME statistical data review, a session chaired by the Minister of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises, Social Economy and Handicrafts, Achille Bassilekin III.

    Cameroon: SOCAHEMA Scientific Day Focuses on Adult Sickle Cell Disease Management

    Advances in medical science are enabling more people living with sickle cell disease to reach adulthood, prompting health experts in Cameroon to pay greater attention to the long-term management of the condition among adult patients.

    This concern was at the centre of a scientific day organised by the Cameroon Society of Hematology and Blood Transfusion (SOCAHEMA) on June 18 in Yaoundé, bringing together specialists, researchers and clinicians to discuss challenges and opportunities in adult sickle cell care.

    The Director General of the National Blood Transfusion Service, Professor Dora Mbanya, highlighted ongoing efforts to improve patient care through access to essential medicines, blood transfusion services and emerging treatment options such as transplantation and gene therapy.

    The Director of GEDREPACAM, a network of specialists involved in sickle cell disease care and research in Cameroon, Dr Wamba, also noted progress in neonatal screening across several health facilities, stressing that early diagnosis helps prevent severe complications and improve patients’ quality of life.

    Participants examined strategies to strengthen prevention, treatment and multidisciplinary care for people living with sickle cell disease in Cameroon.
    The scientific day reflects ongoing efforts by health authorities and stakeholders to strengthen the response to sickle cell disease, a major public health concern in Cameroon.
