    Banana – Plantain Program: 500 Students Awarded Start-up kits

    The fifth cohort of the “One Youth, One Banana Plantain Plantation” programme has been launched this June 3, 2026, at the National School of Administration and Magistracy (#ENAM) in Yaoundé.

    The event was marked by an award ceremony under the chairmanship of the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Gabriel Mbaïrobe.

    The ceremony has brought together key government officials, including Dr. Taïga, Minister of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries, as well as the Minister of Youth Affairs and Civic Education, Mounouna Foutsou, who is also serving as the interim Minister of Employment and Vocational Training.

    Present at the occasion is Samuel Tony Obam, a key figure in the banana-plantain value chain and programme coordinator. He outlined expectations for participants ahead of their one-month immersion tour in Kribi.

    The program is in line with efforts to promote youth employability and agricultural entrepreneurship. Some 500 students drawn from five private higher education institutions received start-up kits and labour-saving machines before departing for a one-week immersion programme at the Banana Plantain Value Chain Incubator in Kribi.

    The initiative, launched under the fifth cohort of the “One Youth, One Banana Plantain Plantation” programme, is designed to equip young participants with practical skills and market-oriented competencies in banana plantain production and transformation.

    Clinical Biology : Colloquium to Boost Health Research in Africa Holds in Yaoundé

    The 5th International Colloquium on Clinical Biology has opened in Yaoundé this May 28, 2026.

    Researchers , health experts and academicians are examining challenges linked to clinical research and innovation in Africa at the conference.

    Holding from May 28 – 29, 2026 at the Catholic University of Central Africa (UCAC) in Messa, the meeting focuses on strengthening health systems across the continent.

    It is the themed : “Clinical Research in Health Sciences in Africa: Analyse, Regulate and Innovate.”

    The Metropolitan Archbishop of Yaoundé, and Grand Chancellor of UCAC, His Grace Jean Mbarga officially opened the conference.

    He called for stronger collaboration between science, faith and culture in advancing research that upholds human dignity and cultural values. The Grand Chancellor also commended organisers for creating a platform that promotes scientific exchange and interdisciplinary dialogue.

    The Director of the School of Health Sciences of UCAC (ESS-UCAC), Dr. Sylvie Myriam Ambomo, shes light on the central theme of the colloquium, saying that it aims to enhance the visibility of scientific research outputs, encourage knowledge sharing among experts, and promote innovation within the health sector. She also noted that clinical research plays a key role in improving healthcare systems across Africa.

    Participants are expected to discuss regulatory, ethical and scientific challenges in clinical biology and propose strategies to strengthen research and healthcare delivery across the continent during the conference.

    Education: UNESCO Donates ICT Equipment to Teachers’ Training Colleges

    Teachers’ Training Colleges in Cameroon have been equipped with ICT equipment donated by UNESCO.

    The equipment was officially handed over to the Ministry of Secondary Education on May 22, 2026 at the Distance Learning Centre in Yaoundé.

    It is part of a project funded by the Government of Japan, and executed by the UNESCO International Institute for Capacity Building in Africa(IICBA).

    The equipment comprises 48 desktop computers, nine laptops, eight LCD projectors, eight smart boards, eight multifunctional printers, eight backup hard drives, eight PC servers with central hubs, and two solar backup systems destined for Teachers’ Training Colleges across the country.

    According to the Minister of Secondary Education, Prof. Nalova Lyonga, the equipment will be distributed to institutions in Buea, Bamenda, Garoua, Yagoua, Edea, Bertoua, Ebolowa and Bafoussam.

    She says the equipment will strengthen teacher-training, and improve inclusive access to quality education, which aligns with government efforts to reinforce the digital transformation of the education sector.

    Senior Programme Coordinator at UNESCO-IICBA, Sall Saliou, explained that the programme also focuses on building teachers’ capacities in the use of ICTs and creating safer learning environments in schools.

    Cameroon is among six African countries benefiting from the project alongside Chad, Nigeria, Mali, Burkina Faso and Mauritania.

    Eliminatoires CAN 2027 : Le Cameroun hérite des Comores de la Namibie et du Congo

    Les Lions Indomptables connaissent désormais la feuille de route qui les mènera à la CAN 2027. Tête de série du groupe G, le Cameroun a hérité d’un tirage plutôt clément mais piégeux, composé des Comores, de la Namibie et du Congo. De septembre 2026 à mars 2027, la sélection camerounaise devra batailler ferme pour valider son billet pour le grand rendez-vous est-africain placé sous le signe de l’unité.

    La Coupe d’Afrique des Nations sera coorganisée par le Kenya, la Tanzanie et l’Ouganda va se jouer du 19 juin au 17 juillet 2027 sous le thème de Le mot pamoja qui est un terme qui provient du swahili (une langue parlée en Afrique de l’Est et dans les Grands Lacs) et qui signifie ensemble ou tous ensemble.

    Le tirage au sort des éliminatoires de cette compétition s’est déroulé ce mardi 19 mai 2026 au Caire en Egypte pour repartir les 48 équipes en 12 groupes par la main des grands noms du football africain Max-Alain Gradel (Côte d’Ivoire), William Troost-Ekong (Nigeria), Essam El Hadary (Égypte) et Trésor Mputu (RD Congo).

    L’équipe des Lions Indomptables

    Le Maroc, le Sénégal, le Nigeria, l’Algérie, l’Égypte, la Côte d’Ivoire, la Tunisie, le Cameroun, la RD Congo, le Mali, l’Afrique du Sud et le Burkina Faso ont été placés dans le chapeau 1, comme têtes de séries ainsi qu’il suit : 

    Ces éliminatoires vont se dérouler du 21 septembre eu 6 octobre 2026 (journées 1 et 2), du 9 au 17 novembre 2026 (journées 3 et 4), et 22 au 30 mars 2027 (Journées 5 et 6) pour le tableau final avant le tirage au sort des phases finales. 

    Le Cameroun (45ème FIFA) est logé dans le groupe G, avec pour adversaires, TV les Comores (109ème FIFA), la Namibie (120ème FIFA) et le Congo (133ème FIFA). Les éliminatoires débutent en septembre 2026 et s’achèvent en Mars 2027.

    National Day 2026: Chad Guest of Honour

    The National and Nomadic Guard of the Republic of Chad is guest of honour for the 2026 National Day celebrations in Cameroon.

    Troops from Chad are taking part in the event for the second time, after their first participation in 2015 participation.

    They will take part at the military parade at the 20th May Boulevard in Yaounde.

    The event will be presided over by the President of the Republic, Paul Biya.

    The President of the Cameroon National Olympic and Sports Committee, CNOSC, who also held the position of President of the Confederation of African Athletics, CAA, Hamad Kalkaba Malboum passed away this Wednesday May 13, 2026.

    The International Olympic Committee, the African Athletics Confederation and the Cameroonian sporting bodies are mourning the man who dedicated a greater part of his life for the growth of athletics and Olympic movements in the continent and the world.

    The Military Colonel, one of the most influential sporting figures served in the highest ranks of athleticism and contributed enormously in the growth of Olympic sports at the level of the Islamic Solidarity Games, African Athletics, International Military Sports Council, International Association of Athletics Federation and the Cameroon Olympic and Sports Committee #CNOSC.

    Government Common Entrance Examination kicks off Nationwide

    Class six pupils from primary schools across the country began sitting the Government Common Entrance Examination into form 1, and the Concours d’Entrée en Sixième this Wednesday the 13th of May, 2026.

    Candidates turned out massively in their various centers, where supervisors and invigilators were on hand to direct assist and prevent cases of examination fraud.

    A few absences were recorded in some centers, due to illnesses, as revealed by some parents of candidates.

    The Minister of Secondary Education, Nalova Lyonga, during a supervisory visits to centres hosting the examinations into Form One of General Secondary and of Technical Education, as well as the concours d’entrée en 6ème de l’enseignement secondaire général et en 1ère année de l’enseignement technique.

    The Minister’s first stop was at Government High School Efoulan in the Mfoundi Division where the exams were unfolding without hitches.

    At her second stop, the Minister of Secondary Education, Nalova Lyonga, visited Government High School Afanoya in the Mfoundi Division where she ensured that guidelines are respected.

    The Minister also dispatched a delegation led by Inspector General of Education, Adjaba Biwoli Jean Pierre, to supervise the conduct of the exam in other centers. The Inspector General’s team went to Government Technical Bilingual High School Nlongkak to ensure the smooth conduct of the examinations.

    He team also went to Government High School Mballa II, with his monitoring mission to assess the conduct of the examinations and ensure strict compliance with official procedures.

    La fin du film pour Bassek ba Kobhio

    Décès ce 12 mai 2026 du cinéaste Bassek ba Kobhio à l’âge de 69 ans. Il était le président fondateur du Festival Écrans Noirs qui se déroule au Cameroun depuis 1997.

    Réalisateur de plusieurs longs métrages dont « Sango Malo », « Le Grand Blanc de Lambaréné », il s’est lancé dans la production en créant Terre Africaine, qui a produit de nombreux films dont « Le Silence de la Forêt ».

    Il était surtout un grand promoteur du 7e art à travers l’Association Écrans Noirs dont il était le Délégué général et qui, outre le festival, organise des formations au profit des amateurs et professionnels des métiers du cinéma.

    Bassek ba Kobhio était aussi un amoureux de littérature. Sa maison d’édition a publié de nombreux ouvrages de référence. Cet ancien directeur de la cinématographie au ministère de l’Information et de la Culture était une grande figure des arts vivants, une voix qui compte dans l’intelligentsia camerounaise.
