The Governor of the West Region, Awa Fonka Augustine, has stated that the region is faring relatively well despite a few incursions by separatists in the Noun and Bamboutos Divisions, which border the North West Region.
He made the statement while chairing an administrative and security coordination meeting held in Bakou, Upper Nkam Division.
A suspected Monkeypox (Mpox) case has been reported in Koumengba Village, Bangourain Subdivision of the Noun Division in the West Region, bringing the total number of cases recorded in the region since the beginning of 2026 to three.
The suspected case involves a 26-year-old man who arrived in the village from Douala on the evening of May 26.
Health and administrative authorities have intensified surveillance and public health awareness campaigns following the detection of the suspected Mpox case.
Onchocerciasis, commonly known as River Blindness, has significantly declined in the North West Region thanks to preventive treatment administered through mass door-to-door drug distribution campaigns.
The disclosure was made by the North West Regional Coordinator for Neglected Tropical Diseases, Asongwe Ignatius, who noted that socio-political tensions, particularly in hard-to-reach areas, have slowed the distribution of medication. Despite these challenges, he expressed optimism that the region is gradually moving toward the elimination phase of River Blindness.
The National Commission for the Promotion of Bilingualism and Multiculturalism (NCPBM) is stepping up efforts to promote bilingualism in #Cameroon.
The state organ is at #SAGO2026 to enforce section 4 of Law no 2019/19 of 24 December 2019 on the promotion of the official languages in Cameroon.
The law states that, « The state shall encourage the promotion of official languages in private entities, employers’ and Labour organizations, civil society organizations and voluntary agencies ».
In keeping with this law, staff of the commission at SAGO are engaging with visitors on their role in promoting social cohesion, fighting hate speech and xenophobia, and the use of the official languages.
From June 6 to 13, the NCPBM will continue public sensitization at the interactive exhibition stand, combat hate speech and xenophobia and distribute brochures on the NCPBM’s missions.

Pour le représentant du Premier ministre, « pour atteindre l’objectif d’émergence contenu dans la vision 2035 du Cameroun, les secteurs public et privé doivent unir leurs forces et combiner leurs énergies et leurs ressources pour créer un environnement propice à la réalisation de cette grande ambition que nous nous sommes fixée ».
Des activités multiples et variées
Pendant les six jours que durera l’événement, le public aura ainsi droit à des présentations, des ateliers et divers échanges menés par des experts de haut niveau et des acteurs opérationnels des secteurs public et privé, qui vont ainsi partager leurs connaissances et expériences sur la co-création en tant que « nouveau paradigme pour le développement économique de notre pays », a expliqué René Emmanuel Sadi.
Le ministre de la Communication a ajouté que ce Salon a aussi pour ambition de présenter au grand public des exemples de réalisations gouvernementales dans divers domaines. Notamment la production des biens et services, l’éducation, la santé, l’emploi et l’intégration des jeunes dans l’économie, les infrastructures, l’agriculture et le développement urbain.
De multiples innovations
Dans le chapitre des innovations, René Emmanuel Sadi a salué la participation des pays étrangers à cette 15e édition du SAGO, tout en soulignant «la merveilleuse et significative» innovation représentée par la création d’un Village des 10 régions, conçu pour rapprocher les autorités régionales et locales du grand public.
Il en est de même du “Village de la Consommation Local”, dont l’objectif est de mettre en pratique la politique de substitution aux importations, ainsi que le “Pôle Carrières et Formation”, qui sert de pierre angulaire à l’intégration socio-économique des jeunes et à l’autonomisation des femmes.

The Government of Cameroon has approved the rescheduling of the remaining papers of the ongoing 2026 #GCE examination session following the leakage of confidential examination questions on electronic and social media platforms.
The Minister of Secondary Education, Nalova Lyonga, announced that the affected papers, initially scheduled between June 8 and June 18, will now be written from June 22 to July 2, as investigations continue to identify those responsible for the security breach.
